ATvantage’s Work Helps to Create Full-Time Position for Fresno Athletic Trainer

Fresno, Calif. – September 5, 2017 – After access to a part-time athletic trainer (AT), Washington Union High School has decided to create a full-time AT position for the 2017-18 school year. Having worked as a contractor with ATvantage the previous school year, AT and Fresno native Jose Salvador was placed at Washington Union and made his value felt throughout the campus.

"Everyone from the custodian staff to the superintendent values what I do and have all thanked me for being there. It feels good that the people at the very top are the ones who support me and want me there for their athletes," Salvador stated.

For Jose, who grew up playing sports in Fresno and never had access to an AT, being able to serve and provide care to his community is an amazing feeling. Though working part-time hours last school year had its challenges, Jose was able to see the opportunity in it explaining, "It was a great experience that helped to improve my efficiency and time-management skills. I am grateful to ATvantage for opening this door to stay close to home and practice what I love."

The development of this position is not only a huge win for the school and Jose, but for the AT profession overall. Full-time hours ultimately allow ATs like Jose the benefit of more time with the athletes and within the communities that support them. This gives ATs the opportunity to show their worth in an even larger way and aligns with ATvantage’s overall mission and vision.

“We try to identify organizations that want ATs but may have constraints in doing so. We work with them to show the value of athletic trainers. In the case of Washington Union, they chose to prove they recognized Jose’s value by creating a full time position after just one year,” ATvantage Owner Alisha Pennington said. “We consider that a win for all involved.”
